Experience Production Intern - Summer 2025 (Personal Services)



OVERVIEW:

The Experience Production Intern will work closely with the Manager of Exhibit Fabrication to support the hands-on creation and production of exhibits. The individual should have basic woodworking/carpentry skills and a foundational understanding of fabrication or design processes. Some proficiency with design technology platforms (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Microsoft Word, and Excel) is also preferred. This internship offers the opportunity to participate in various facets of the exhibit process—from development and material exploration to fabrication and installation—providing valuable behind-the-scenes experience in a dynamic and unique museum environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with the Exhibit Production team to construct and install exhibit components while gaining hands-on experience with tools and machinery in a workshop environment.  
  2. Receive one-on-one mentoring from xPro team members based on personal development goals as it relates to fabrication and materials (i.e. metalworking, woodworking, 3D printing, mold making, laser cutting, etc.)    
  3. Explore current exhibits within the museum as well as documentation to understand standard practices, construction flaws, and availability of information both digitally and physically   
  4. Support the fabrication and installation of exhibits through tasks such as material preparation, assembly, and troubleshooting during installation
  5. Participate in team meetings to learn about the exhibit development process and build relationships with other museum professionals.
  6. Build professional relationships within the museum environment to support further growth with opportunities for professional development in a creative and innovative environment  

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Junior, or Senior status majoring in Building Construction, Theatre Design, Architectural/Interior Design, or related field at college/university/trade school.
  2. Basic woodworking/carpentry skills and familiarity with workshop tools and equipment.
  3. Interest in hands-on exhibit production and fabrication processes.
  4. some proficiency with design technology platforms (i.e. SketchUp, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Word, Excel, etc.)
  5. Strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work effectively in a people-oriented, changing, flexible environment within the Museum.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to perceive space and colors and to make esthetic assessments of installations, review drawings of designs and fabrication diagrams, to view documents and computer monitor.
  2. Must be able to engage in extensive communication during brainstorming and planning situations and strong presentations of ideas. Team and group dialogue is required for the communication of plans and concepts. Must be able to effectively communicate during complex installation situations involving coordinated group work.
  3. Must be able to safely negotiate and maneuver within carpenter and production shop environments and production sites. Agility and dexterity are required for onsite inspections of the fabrication and installation of complex elements.  Must be able to lift, carry, and move 40 lbs.
  4. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
