The Research Technician is responsible for the collection of environmental and biological data, entry and quality assurance checks of data, as well as providing basic maintenance and operation of sampling equipment. Assists with laboratory sample analysis and processing.
*Note: This is a full-time, grant funded position. Continuation of the position is dependent upon future funding.
Duties:
Conducts environmental field and lab data collection.
Enters and checks data for quality assurance.
Cleans, organizes, and prepares sampling equipment in support of research and monitoring projects.
Maintains, calibrates, and operates field and lab environmental data collection instruments and gear.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of experience working in water quality or other aquatic environmental monitoring/research program.
Valid Texas Driver's License upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or closely related field.
Three years of experience working in water quality or other aquatic environmental monitoring/research programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the scientific method as well as the basic environmental concepts and common biological sampling techniques.
Knowledge of calibration and maintenance of environmental sampling equipment.
Ability to communicate in both oral and written formats.
Proficient organizational skills.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines and work in a team setting.
Ability to conduct physical work in outdoor environment.
