Fire Safety Specialist - Norco/Eastvale (Finance)
Completion of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector series courses IA, IB, IC, and ID is highly desired. Competitive candidates will know the fire code and code application along with experience in plan review, field inspections, and annual state-mandated inspections.

The Riverside County Fire Department is one of California's largest integrated, cooperative, regional fire protection organizations. The Department, a unique partnership between State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the County of Riverside, serves 19 partner agencies and 1 community service district. The Department has five core values: Leadership, Competence, Integrity, Safety, and Customer Service.• Reviews, researches and evaluates fire protection plans and equipment for effectiveness in fire prevention and protection; recommends alternative and/or improved fire protection plans and devices.
• Studies and evaluates building and development plans and specifications for conformance with applicable laws, codes and regulations concerning fire protection and life safety.
• Assists in the preparation and updating of the Riverside County Master Fire Plan; analyzes community fire problems and develops improvement programs, determines the resolution of specialized fire prevention and fire protection problems.
• Reviews fire sprinkler system plans and fire protection equipment systems; determining water requirements for fire protection.
• Conduct special inspections and investigations of existing structures as it relates to fire codes.
• Reviews commercial, industrial, and multi-unit building plans and specifications for occupancy and structural requirements as it relates to fire code.
• Coordinates plan checking with other departments and makes recommendations relative to use, changes and adoption of codes, ordinances and departmental standards.
• Supervise the daily activities of Fire Prevention Technicians; interprets fire code and regulations relating to Fire Protection.
• Conducts and assists in the evaluation of personnel; counsels employees; and reviews and interprets department policies, procedures and safety practices with personnel.Experience: Two years experience performing fire safety inspection, building construction inspection, or plans examination; An Associate Degree in Fire Protection or Building Construction Technology may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Candidates must have completed the California Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Prevention series courses IA, IB, IC, and ID at the time of application. Completion of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Prevention series courses II & III is highly desired.
Knowledge of: Must possess technical knowledge of codes and standards, fire safety protection system methods, procedures and building codes, and fire code requirements as they relate to construction for fire protection and fire apparatus access.
