SUMMARY Responsible for the development and documentation of mechanical designs, in a cross-functional engineering team environment, for products which include high-performance electro-mechanical systems and components, integrated structures, control panels used for aircraft entertainment, navigation, and communication systems. Provides support to other departments including manufacturing, sales, customer service, and quality. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Creates designs by analyzing product or equipment specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities. Performs basic design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of products by applying fundamental engineering principals and established analytical tools. Conducts fundamental analyses and/or tests to substantiate new designs, methods, materials, or processes and completes supporting documentation, to include reports, procedures, or change proposals, by applying basic engineering principles and company standards. Develops acceptance, engineering evaluation, test plans, procedures, and reports. Compiles and analyzes operation, test, and research data in support of establishing performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, and cost-defining recommendations. Prepares detailed fabrication and assembly drawings by coordinating with designers and drafters, interpreting customer and functional requirements, or by using computer-aided design tools and following industry drawing standards. Develops data and documentation in response to customer proposal requests. Reviews drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies errors, omissions, and other deficiencies. Proposes revisions and improvements to engineering team lead and/or senior engineers. Implements approved revisions and improvements to drawings. Communicates with customer to establish understanding of customer's technical requirements. Provides technical information to support creation of technical proposals for customers by reviewing and interpreting specifications and requirements. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE This position requires progression towards a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum. Preferably Mechanical Engineering or related with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preferably applicants entering Junior or Senior year of engineering curriculum. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Conversational in any other language is a plus. JOB SKILLS Strong MS Office skills: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel. Skills in the use of 2D and/or 3D design software. Demonstrates interest in learning various manufacturing processes and experience working in a hands-on environment. Optimally utilizes all channels of communications. PHYSICAL DEMANDS As part of their job duties, the employee must sit for lengthy periods while operating a computer. They frequently use their hands to type, handle objects, and communicate verbally.
