Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Science Intern to join our team in Buffalo, NY. While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 10 to 25% of their time in the field.
As part of our Resilience Environment team, you'll help improve quality of life. With your expertise in environmental science your work could involve a range of remediation and/or sampling and/or monitoring activities as directed and in accordance with relevant Health and Safety or other operational standards. General technical and communication skills will be needed to support a variety of needs across multiple client market sectors.
Role accountabilities:
In this role, you will be supporting various leaders on a variety of tasks across multiple client sectors including, but not limited to:
- Environmental consulting - Communication, technical writing, and general support
- Environmental construction services - Assistance with planning, cost estimating and client correspondence
- Environmental permitting - Assistance with a variety of permit preparation and input of associated technical information
- Environmental compliance software support
Your responsibilities may also include actively participating in field activities as part of a team. These activities include supporting drilling operations, which includes the installation of monitoring wells and providing descriptions of soil or rock. You will be responsible for conducting soil, groundwater, and air sampling.
Another crucial aspect of your role will be data management tasks such as compiling, manipulating, and evaluating data. You will provide support in writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda. You will contribute to the production of figures, maps, and boring logs to aid in the visual representation of project information.
- Assisting with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda
- Preparing cost estimates and proposals
- Data management (compilation, manipulation, and evaluation of data)
- Coordinating work schedules with subcontractors
- Figure/ map/ boring log production
- Exhibit independent thinking skills and able to work successfully with minimal daily supervision.
- Detailed field note collection in legible handwriting.
Candidates must have a good driving record, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing fieldwork, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- Pursuing a degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
- A valid driver's license
Preferred
- Prior environmental consulting internship experience

Arcadis offers benefits for part-time, as needed (PTAN) positions. These benefits include EAP, 401K, and optional wellbeing benefits. The salary range for this position is $17.00 -$26.00/ hour.
