Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Building and Grounds Supervisor this position is responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of County-owned structures and fixtures. This employee performs general housekeeping tasks in coordination with maintenance staff to ensure facilities are clean and free of debris, water, snow, and ice. Work is performed independently through specific instructions and reviewed by the supervisor.

Essential Function Statement(s)
Dust desks and furniture taking care to maintain order and confidentiality. Sanitize and deodorize bathrooms. Clean bathroom sinks. Shine bathroom mirrors. Maintain paper towels, toilet paper, soap dispensers, air fresheners, and other supplies. Clean, wet mop, and wax floors. Shampoo and vacuum rugs or floors. Empty waste containers and remove the trash. Safely change light bulbs. Clean windows and window blinds/drapes. Report necessary repairs to the supervisor. Effectively communicate and work cooperatively with all County Departments.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Assisting building and ground staff when needed. Other related duties as necessary or required.
Position qualifications
Pass a post-offer/ pre-employment drug screen. Possess a valid Kansas Drivers License.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience: Entry level to two years of custodial experience. The employee is expected to be adequately trained for the position after three months.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Skills: Ability to use vacuums, chemical cleaners, floor waxing machines, and other custodial and lawn equipment. Ability to read and follow label directions on chemicals and cleaners.
Problem Solving: Limited problem solving exists involving the determination of procedures for performing routine tasks.
Decision Making: All assignments and decisions made by the supervisor. Decision making may involve determining whether certain duties ought to be performed that are not routine.
Accountability: Employee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department and does not participate in the annual budget process.
Supervision: This position follows assignments from the supervisor following expected standards with minimal supervision. The employee is expected to work independently. Work is reviewed by supervisor Employee has no supervisory responsibility for subordinate personnel.
Personal Relations: Frequent contact with other county departments, and the general public requiring the ability to communicate and relate positively and effectively.
Working Conditions: The performance of job duties involves physical effort. Extreme weather conditions are occasionally a factor in this position. Occasional overtime may be required.
