Cornell is seeking a motivated Intern CNC Operator to join our growing team!

This is a paid internship offering $21.00 hour, with a schedule of at least 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals to advance their careers in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a local certification or associate degree program and eager to gain hands-on experience.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Setup and perform machining operations on various metals, castings, forgings, and fabrications. Able to operate one or more major machines and one or more minor machines. Sets up all fixtures and cutters to perform machining operations on all kinds of metals, casting, forgings, and fabrications by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works from a "work at machine" schedule on a computer system or from verbal instructions from production control. Uses computer system to clock in and out of daily work
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Uses measuring tools to control machining operations such as dial indicators, micrometers, scales, tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
• Does basic maintenance to machines, including checking and maintaining oils and fluids in machines. Reports problems with a machine to the Manager or Supervisor.
• Makes setup sheets for new jobs and updates old setup sheets.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
• Keeps machines and work area clean and free of debris. Mops work area at end of shift.
• Able to operate forklifts and other lifting devices.
• Follow all safety precautions and practices safe working habits. Reports all unsafe conditions and injuries to the supervisor immediately.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or vocational school required and one-year prior machining related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
