Position Summary
Rice University's BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC) is searching for an experienced Floor Care Technician - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting with minimal supervision. Under the leadership of the BRC's lead custodian, the Floor Care Technician will perform the following duties: strip, scrub, buff, seal, wax, and apply finishes to floors, shampoo and extract carpets, and remove heavy trash. The Floor Care Technician will also sweep, mop, vacuum, and assist with moving furniture for event set-ups. The Floor Care Technician will perform scheduled and requested cleaning of the research facility floors in accordance with departmental standards. This position has no supervisory duties.
The ideal candidates should have skills and experience with heavy floor cleaning machines, good communication skills, a positive attitude, and the willingness to learn new skills for cleaning and maintaining flooring in Rice's BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC). The BRC is thoughtfully designed to facilitate and encourage interactions among researchers. It is equipped for cutting-edge laboratory, theoretical, and computational investigations and features ten floors of research labs, centers, Rice classrooms, and event spaces.
Workplace Requirements
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person at the BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC) building, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 pm to 11 pm, with mandatory overtime, as needed. This is an essential position, and the incumbent is expected to report to the BRC during extreme weather as directed by Rice's CrisisManagement Team. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, and the proposed salary starts at $16.00 an hour, with the potential for a hire rate based on qualifications and experience. *Non-exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
